- Transgenic bacteria, chickens, Petri dish, fluorescent rabbit, hypersimbionts microrganism, butterfly’s wings are populate the bioart territory. Science and art territories deterritorialized themselves and became other territories: bioart territories. These territories have been opened for other artists with different artworks types that usually put together, in a real or fictional manner, living beings, molecular biology techniques or biological protocols. In this research we were in bioart territory where we followed the artistic process of Joe Davis at Church Lab, Boston-MA, United States for six months. We experimented with the flowing among Science and Art semiotic and we took Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari theory as theoric reference. We knew Joe Davis’ portfolio and we could follow up his interactions with other scientists at the lab. We realized that only some of Joe Davis artwork undergo a personal pursuit for intelligent extraterristrial life. In the middle of 1980’s Joe Davis, in a attempt to communicate with extraterristrial life created the “Poetica Vaginal” artwork, upon which he recorded the vaginal contractions of ballerinas, codified and sent as audio message to another galaxy. After this artwork he still sought out other ways to communicate with life outside Earth, Joe Davis produced “Microvenus” (1988), the first transgenic artwork, that potentialized others. In 1993, he produced “Riddle of life” based on a Science episode between two scientists, which is a transgenic bacteria genetically modified with the sentence: “I am the riddle of life, know me and you will know yourself”. We realized the movements and powers of Joe Davis artistic production and his contact with others scientists and we brought the flowings formed on the maps to this research. There were contagion that melted becomings. The becoming-scientist of Joe Davis has brought Science to Art and has exploded some signs of Science semiotic that raised on me a becoming-artist.
