Abstract: 200-500 words
This dissertation explores information aesthetic performance about scientifically analyzing the features of information visualization, and expanding to the information aesthetic by considering aesthetic issues in order to suggest the model of information aesthetic performance. The concepts, the technologies, the applications, and the artworks of information visualization are discussed by analyzing the three essential principles of implementing information visualization in terms of psychological interface, graphic interaction, and geographical medium. Accordingly, aesthetic relationship between the arts and information visualization is achieved. In particular, the artworks of intermedial performance are discussed in the view of the model of information aesthetics communication in terms of information aesthetics and performing arts. A model of information aesthetics performance as a new representation of information visualization is proposed to explain the features of aesthetic performance by three elements including sensorium, multiplicity and live action. The proposed model considers the perception of information visualization, the structure of determining visual forms, and the spatial and temporal acts in the integral views of audience, artists, and artworks. In addition, the author’s artwork, Turing’s Heart Machine, is analyzed in the term of data aesthetics. In the live performance of this work, the audience’s responses are examined carefully to derive aesthetic meanings in the views of communication, new aesthetic possibilities, and universal responses. These complementary approaches that aim for individual subjective and universal objective, allow getting the various opportunities of aesthetically interpreting the data. Moreover, “the autonomous property of the data” makes up the relationship between data autonomy, data aura, and aesthetic algorithm. The model of information aesthetic performance can facilitate an understanding of the affinity between the audience and the artwork of information visualization from expanding the position of the user into the audience. That is, this model prospects for the possibilities of new thinking and insights obtained by multilateral communication on the data developed from the traditional stage of one-sided communication. Therefore, this study would provide an opportunity for establishing a new framework to analyze the artwork of information visualization, and to expand the understanding of the data.
