- The aim of this small scale study is to identify a model that would enable the University of East Anglia’s Water Security Research Centre to introduce an Artist In Residence to its inter disciplinary research and teaching. With an absence of literature on artists collaborating with water experts, the research focus has been expanded to encompass art|science research collaborations in the field, in labs and academia. Through interviews with artists, scientists, art|science facilitators and a survey conducted with staff and students of the WSRC, questions of instigation, transformation and evaluation have allowed current models that support innovation and creation of new knowledge to emerge. The study also discusses the challenges involved in negotiating the incentive structure within academia and the strategic role of the artist in developing new pedagogical routes towards a common language between science and the humanities.
