- This paper the written component of an artistic research project called 'may the mice bite me if it is not true'. The paper begins by describing the artistic process of creating experimental portraits using human disease model mice as a medium. It then continues with a discussion of the work and a description of the position this artwork occupies within the practice of Biological Art. This is followed by an explanation of disease model mice and how they are currently utilized in the biological sciences. Following this is a description of the process of gaining Animal Ethics Approval to create this artwork within a biomedical animal holding facility at the University of Western Australia.
