- This thesis deals with computer-graphics and animations created by the artist and scientist Herbert W. Franke, focusing on their composition- and style-analysis. Using art history methods, Franke's artworks are brought in the context of the pioneers of computer art in a national and an international level. Furthermore, the symmetry and ornamentality in Franke's Oeuvre is researched focusing on the artworks created using the rules of fourier transform and of fractals. Also, the constructivity in Franke's artworks that appears at the graphics created by self-developed software DRAKULA and MONDRIAN is discussed. Further, the importance of the optical illusion in his artworks, especially the works based on the Moire - effect are included for research. Besides the abstract-geometric artworks, also figurative artworks (portrait and the illustration of the nature) have been considered and also the technical analyses of the System DIBIAS, „Bildspeicher N“, or of the software „Mathematische Landschaften“.
