Abstract: 200-500 words
In artmaking, I focus specifically on sexuality and issues of gender because it is in these areas that I am able to twist the familiar male perspective into something that appears rather peculiar and unfamiliar. By using the polarities of sensual desire and repulsion in conjunction with transformations of the female figure, I attempt to draw the viewer into an experience of wanting and not wanting to look, feel, smell, or touch. Ambiguity, complexity, and controversy often serve as my three graces in this redefinition of woman. In confronting the problematics of patriarchal structure and challenging the myths of woman, I am allowing HER to exist as any-self, and aspire to acknowledge both the masculine and the feminine in all of us.
